Developed within the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, this badge recognizes fundamental knowledge in the ability to identify nutrients associated with foods, prepare basic food recipes, and understand the importance of food safety. Earners can identify the nutrient content of foods, understand food safety and sanitation, understand the role of food in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and recognize the socio-cultural and ethnic food consumption issues and trends.

Successful completion of assessments addressing the learner's understanding on various topics within food and nutrition.

Successful completion of an in-person lab, where learners demonstrate basic food preparation skills.

Successful completion of a reflection paper where learners demonstrate how the competencies gained can be utilized to further personal, professional and/or academic goals.
