Child Maltreatment and Family Violence Concentration: The concentration in Child Maltreatment and Family Violence is recommended for students interested in expanding their knowledge and education in the area of child abuse and domestic violence, and training with field experience in serving this population.

Earning Criteria

Application into the concentration is required. Must be at least a Junior and have completed 6 credit hours in the department when applying for admission. A cumulative GPA must be at least 2.5 when applying for admission. The application is available by contacting any faculty member in Sociology and Criminology.

Successfully complete SO408 Child Abuse and Maltreatment (Spring semester)

Successfully complete SO410 Intimate Violence (Fall Semester)

Attend the Child Abuse Summit (Spring Semester) or one of two options. OPTION ONE: Choose one of the courses from the following site (it's free and use CASA volunteer for your position). You can choose any of the advocacy courses for a total of 7 hours of training). Attend Take Back the Night on campus during the spring semester

The practicum requirement is 3 credits and may include an agency-based practicum, online webinars/workshops/trainings, on-site trainings, or any combination of these activities. The practicum plan must be approved by the student's academic advisor.
