In order to receive this badge, participants attended six workshops focused on leading to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. They have demonstrated a necessary attribute for any successful leader: equity-mindedness and a heart for inclusion. They are committed to making a positive impact within their teams and the broader Emory community, creating spaces of belonging where all can thrive.

Participation in over 80% of Advancement and Alumni Engagement’s Leading with Equity Series: 5+ (out of 6) 2.5-hour workshops, committing 12-15 hours total class time.

Cultural Awareness and Humility: Participants were given the opportunity to more deeply engage by gaining skills to see and understand differences through the lens of their own values and belief systems. Workshop outcomes included establishment of norms and a deep dive into terminology and ideas that are foundational to this work.

Introduction to Implicit Bias: Session took a deeper dive into the scientific phenomenon of implicit bias—with particular attention to racial bias—the automatic, unconscious decisions that people make that are often biased against minoritized populations.

Introduction to Microaggressions: Workshop explored microaggressions: the everyday unconscious, subtle and often automatic put-downs and insults expressed toward a marginalized group by dominant culture. Session identified target, agent and bystander roles, and role- play ways to mitigate microaggressions with inclusion nudges and micro-affirmations.

Recognizing and Dismantling White Supremacy Culture at Work: Session introduced characteristics of white supremacy culture and how organizations unconsciously use the characteristics as the default way of being at work. Acknowledging these traits is the first step to creating a welcoming space for all to feel a sense of belonging.

Recruitment with an Equity Lens: Workshop explored tactical, practical and concrete ways to de-bias and improve processes and decision making relating to recruitment strategies.
