The course prepares students for completion of Distributed Generation 1. It guides the student through various forms of alternative power supplies that may be a source for critical loads within a specific environment. Distributed generation technologies are a fairly new power source application that may be used for critical load backup power and stand-alone power production applications.

The methods of assessment include quizzes, examinations, presentations, performance rubrics (checklists), and classroom participation with a minimum passing score of 75 percent.

The methods of instruction include audio visual materials, practical exercises, discussion, learner presentations, classroom exercises, laboratory, lecture, and computer-based training.
