This course has been developed for mobile maintenance and service engineering staff required to complete periodic validation and verification tests on small benchtop N or B type sterilizers used in dental or other healthcare clinics. The course is suitable for individuals with prior experience of testing and/or in-depth maintenance of such equipment.

Earning Criteria

Through a closed book assessment, the learner showed an understanding of the requirements for sterilization of reusable medical devices, the roles and responsibilities of key personnel, microbiology terms, risks associated with small steam sterilizers, properties of steam and steam quality, principles of pressure and temperature measurement, specified test equipment and generic periodic tests.

Through an open book practical assessment, the learner showed an understanding of weekly periodic test, test equipment calibration verification, and the completion of a small load thermometric test sheet from supplied data.

Through a workbook conducted throughout the duration of the course the learner showed an understanding of microbiology, recognised guidance documents and roles and responsibilities, steam fundamentals, pressure measurement, temperature measurement, test recording and calibration methods and testing methods.
