Earning Criteria

This person has successfully demonstrated all of the knowledge and practical competencies required to achieve the Skills Proficiency Certificate in Basic Housekeeping. They can maintain safe working conditions, adopt safe procedures for themselves and others, select and use protective clothing and safety equipment for specific tasks.

They can carry out safe working practices to ensure the safety of personnel and members of the public. They can use and store cleaning chemicals in a safe manner and apply establishment emergency procedures. They can provide information, assistance and referrals to customers and use appropriate security procedures. They can organise cleaning tasks effectively and work co-operatively in team situations.

They can use appropriate health and hygiene practices and clean sanitary fittings, bathrooms and bedrooms using the appropriate methods and materials. They can make beds in accordance with establishment standards. They will know how to care, use and store cleaning substances used in the workplace and know the preventative and remedial actions to be taken in the case of exposure to toxic and potentially dangerous ones. They will have a knowledge of basic first aid.
