This course has been developed for those new to working on lift installations. It provides a broad range of competences essential to work safely in a lift environment and enables learners to carry out the release of passengers in a safe and responsible manner, following the basic principles for the manual release of trapped passengers that applies to all-electric traction (including MRLs) and hydraulic lift installations with the power isolated.

Earning Criteria

Through an open book multiple-choice assessment this learner has shown an understanding of the current standards and legislation relevant to the release of trapped passengers, identified the electrical and mechanical safety features, aspects and safe working procedures. They also confirmed their knowledge of key accident and emergency procedures and when the escalation procedure should be applied.

Through a practical assessment this learner demonstrated their skills in applying safe working practices and procedures, and how to correctly release passengers from a lift safely.
