Earning Criteria

• This person has achieved the Pass criteria of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) (4515-04)  This person has developed the knowledge and skills needed to carry out a role as an Engineering Fitter or Metal Fabricator.
• Mandatory content: Health and safety in the engineering workplace  This person has developed their knowledge of health and safety in an engineering workplace. They have learned about the main legislative requirements and the key responsibilities of those working in engineering.  This person understands typical workplace safe working practices and procedures. They have developed understanding of how environmental regulations affect the activities of the engineering industry.
• Mandatory content: Communication and teamwork in engineering This person has developed their understanding of how to communicate general and technical within an engineering business. They can understand the characteristics of effective teams, the causes of conflicts within teams and how these can be addressed.
• Mandatory content: Applied science and maths for engineering This person can apply mathematical methods and scientific knowledge to design effective products, manufacture products and solve problems.  They can apply mathematical principles of algebra, calculus, trigonometry and statistics to solve engineering problems. This person has also developed understanding of the scientific principles that underpin the solutions to many engineering challenges.
• As this qualification contains a range of optional units, this person is able to demonstrate a mix of knowledge/skills from the following areas:
• Platework fabrication of materials, Sheet metalwork fabrication of materials, Fabrication and erection of structural steelwork, Pattern development for fabrication, Pipe and tube fabrication, Mechanical principles of engineering systems, Engineering maintenance procedures and techniques, Principles of electrical and electronic circuits, Electrical and electronic measurement, testing and fault diagnosis, Principles of three-phase systems, Electrical installation
• Principles and applications of fluid mechanics, Engineering drawing, Computer aided design, Manufacturing planning, Properties and application of engineering materials, Principles of machining processes, Computer aided manufacturing, Principles of engineering measurement, Project management, Further mathematics for engineers, Advanced mechanical principles of engineering systems, Organisational improvement, Business operations in engineering
• Principles of fabrication processes, Principles of welding processes, Primary manufacturing processes, Principles of composite materials, Industrial process control, Automation and robotic technology, Leading a team, TIG welding of materials, MIG and FCAW welding of materials, MMA welding of materials, Electronic circuit design and manufacture
• This person has the specialist knowledge and skills required to work as a Metal Fabricator in some or all of the following areas:  Platework fabrication of materials, Sheet metalwork fabrication of materials, Fabrication and erection of structural steelwork, Pattern development for fabrication, Pipe and tube fabrication, Mechanical principles of engineering systems, Engineering maintenance procedures and techniques
• This person has the specialist knowledge and skills required to work as an Engineering Fitter in some or all of the following areas:  Principles of electrical and electronic circuits, Electrical and electronic measurement, testing and fault diagnosis, Principles of three-phase systems, Electrical installation, Principles and applications of fluid mechanics, Engineering drawing, Computer aided design
• This qualification is regulated by OFQUAL.
