• This individual has achieved unit 301 Principles of health and safety. They are able: Understand health and safety legislation, understand the risk assessment process, understand first aid requirements, understand principles of safe manual handling, understand the use of fire extinguishers.
• This individual has achieved unit 302 Undertake and review work related experience in the Land-based Industries. They are able to: Determine employment opportunities in the environmental and land-based industries, prepare for a work-based experience in the environmental and land-based industry, understand the importance of effective interpersonal skills in the workplace, review a work-based experience in the environmental and land-based sector.
• This individual has achieved unit 350 Undertake stable yard operations. They are able to: Plan, monitor and maintain daily routines and working environment, undertake horse care tasks to maintain the health of horses, determine requirements for stabled and grass kept horses, understand how to work safely around horses.
• This individual has achieved unit 351 Equine health. They are able to: Understand indicators of horse health, understand common equine disease and disorders, their treatment and prevention, understand how to monitor and record the health and wellbeing of horses, carry out and record basic treatments.
• This individual has achieved unit 352 Horse tack and equipment. They are able to: Fit and evaluate suitability of saddles and bridles, fit and evaluate suitability of equipment, fit and evaluate suitability of rugs, fit and evaluate the suitability of boots and bandages.
• This individual has achieved unit 353 Biological systems of horses. They are able to: Understand the structure and function of the major biological systems, understand control mechanisms of the body, understand the neural control mechanisms, understand how animal’s senses have adapted to their environment.
• This individual has achieved unit 354 Prepare horses for presentation. They are able to: Wash and groom horses, pull and plait manes and tails, clip and trim horses, present a horse for public presentation.
• This individual has achieved unit 355 Equine feeding and nutrition. They are able to: Understand the basics of equine nutrition, understand the nutritional values and properties of different food types, understand the feeding requirements of the horse at different life stages, plan, monitor, record and evaluate diets and feeding regimes for horses.
• This individual has achieved unit 356 Horse behaviour and welfare. They are able to: Understand the effect of evolution on horse behaviour, understand horse behaviour, determine the effects of domestication on behaviour of the horse, understand how to promote the welfare of horses.
• This individual has achieved unit 357 Working and training horses from the ground. They are able to: Exercise horses on the lunge, understand other methods used to exercise and train horses from the ground, understand contemporary methods of training horses from the ground, assess and improve horses being worked from the ground.
• This individual has achieved unit 358 The principles of equitation. They are able to: Understand the influence of the rider on the horse, understand how to assess horses, understand techniques for training on the flat, understand jumping techniques for training over fences.
• This individual has achieved unit 359 Contribute to managing an equine event. They are able to: Understand regulatory frameworks relevant to equine event management, demonstrate business management skills required to run equine events, plan and contribute towards running equine events, evaluate the success of an equine event.
• This individual has achieved unit 360 The principles of horse fitness. They are abe to: Understand physiological effects of fittening on the systems of the horse, understand the requirements of horse fitness preparation, plan horse fitness programmes, monitor horse fitness.
• This individual has achieved unit 364 Business management in the LandBased sector. They are able to: Understand the breadth and importance of an industry in the land-based sector, understand business resources and structures, understand the business marketplace, understand how to use financial and physical record keeping systems.
• This individual has achieved a number of optional units. Learners must be taught at least 300 GLH from units 361 – 363, 365 - 374.
