Earning Criteria

• This individual has achieved unit 301 Engineering Materials. They are able to: Differentiate between a range of materials used in engineering, they will consider new material developments along with their impact on product manufacture, the learners are able to know the properties and characteristics of engineering materials, understand metal heat treatment techniques and their effects on material structures, use testing methods to determine material properties.
• Understand the basic principles of composite materials, understand the basic principles of electronic materials.
• This individual has achieved 302 Electronics, Control and Instrumentation. They are able to: Apply the principles of electricity, magnetism and electrical circuits, apply the principles of digital electronics, understand microcontrollers and their application, apply open and closed loop control in servo systems, use sensors and transducers in control and robotic systems, understand the basic principles of industrial instrumentation.
• This individual has achieved 303 Mechanical Structures and Dynamics . They are able to: Apply bending moments, shear forces and deflections in simple structures, design simple beams and columns, use mechanical science principles to solve practical problems in dynamics, understand thermodynamics in engines and heat pumps.
• This individual has achieved 304 Manufacturing Methods in Engineering. They are able to: Understand manufacturing processes and techniques, understand production and automation systems, understand advanced manufacturing techniques, understand process planning requirements, understand quality control issues.
• This individual has achieved 305 Engineering Design . They are able to: Understand the process of developing a product design specification from a design brief, develop a product design specification from a customer brief, understand how engineering design solutions meet product design specifications, understand the effects of historic engineering design achievements, produce 2D CAD drawings, produce 3D CAD drawings.
• This individual has achieved 306 Engineering Mathematics and Statistics. They are able to: Apply principles of algebra, apply principles of trigonometry, apply principles of calculus, apply principles of complex numbers, apply statistical methods.
• This individual has achieved 307 Engineering Workshop Practice. They are able to: Understand health and safety requirements in an engineering workshop, know engineering cutting tools and machines, mark out and cut engineering components, use electrical and electronic engineering tools, assemble engineering components.
• This individual has achieved 308 Innovation and New Technologies. They are able to: Understand how innovation and new technologies impact on society and industry, understand the need for research and development, understand low-carbon technologies and their impact, understand augmented and virtual reality, understand the impact of digital technologies, cloud computing and the Internet.
• This individual has achieved 310 Manufacturing Engineering. They are able to: Know manufacturing sectors and methods, understand production planning techniques, understand the management of manufacturing, understand costs associated with manufacturing, understand manufacturing quality assurance methods.
• This individual has achieved 311 Robotics and Automated Manufacture. They are able to: Understand the architecture and uses of computer automated and robotic systems, understand control system operations, understand robotic control and drive systems, apply robotic control programming, use a PLC and a PC (SCADA)to control a simple system.
• This individual has achieved a number of optional units. Learners must be taught at least 120 GLH from units 309 – 317.
