Earning Criteria

• This individual has achieved unit 201 Maintain animal health and welfare. They are able to: Monitor and maintain the health of animals, recognise how to promote and maintain the welfare of animals, identify signs and symptoms of common diseases and disorders, their prevention and treatment, understand the practices and principles of animal first aid.
• This individual has achieved unit 202 Animal feeding and accommodation. They are able to: Prepare equipment, food and water for animals, feed and monitor animals, clean and prepare animal accommodation, maintain animal accommodation.
• This individual has achieved unit 203 Animal behaviour and handling. They are able to: Recognise typical and atypical behaviour, monitor and record behaviour in animals, handle and restrain animals safely.
• This individual has achieved unit 229 Working in the animal care industry. They are able to: Know the structure of the animal care industry, know employment rights and responsibilities, understand the organisation of business.
• This individual has achieved unit 230 Health and safety for the land-based industries. They are able to: Understand the impact legislation has on land-based industries, understand risk assessment requirements for land-based industries, understand safe working practices when working in land-based industries.
• This individual has achieved a number of optional units. Learners must be taught from units 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210, 211, 224, 225, 226, 227, 228.
