This qualification is for those working as engineering operatives in job roles such as maintenance, mechanical manufacturing, electrical and electronics, fabrication, technical support and processing and finishing. It provides skills and underpinning knowledge across the different job roles and is a mandatory component of the level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship. This person working in a maintenance role carries out fault location, diagnostic techniques and testing. On completion of activities they restore equipment to service.

This person working in a mechanical manufacturing role can plan operations, prepare equipment, produce components using manufacturing techniques and carry out quality checks during and after operations.

This person working in an electrical electronic role can select and use tools to wire and terminate cabling, assemble and test electrical and electronic components and on completion of activities restore equipment to service.

This person working in a fabrication role can select and use tools and equipment to shape and join materials, produce components to meet specifications and carry out quality checks during and after the activities.

This person working in a materials, processing, finishing role can plan and prepare tools, equipment and materials. They carry out materials, processing and finishing operations and carry out quality checks during and after the activities.

This person working in a technical support role can plan and prepare tools, equipment and materials. They carry out technical support operations and carry out quality checks during and after the activities.
