This course has been developed for engineering staff responsible for directly managing, overseeing, or auditing safe systems of work within the scope of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) for boiler or other stored pressure mechanical systems. It gives the knowledge and skills to support the decision of appointment to AP (Mechanical) and to implement and control safe systems of work relating to boiler and stored pressure mechanical systems.

Earning Criteria

Through an open book written assessment the learner has shown an understanding of key aspects of legislation during implementation and control of safe systems of work, fundamental physical properties of fluids, equipment and systems as well as the function, components and safety features on stored pressure mechanical systems.

The learner has confirmed their knowledge of the roles and responsibilities for Authorised Person (Mechanical) and Person in Charge (Mechanical), isolation methods, site installations, and the requirement for demarcation agreements and has provided an explanation of how to manage & resolve conflicts between regulations & procedures and local rules.

Through a practical assessment, the learner showed an understanding of the skills and knowledge required by an Authorised Person (Mechanical) by completing relevant safety documents.
