The College of Fellows is special status within the Canadian Institute of Planners that recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of planning. Election as a Fellow is the highest award the Institute can give to a planner and only those admitted may use the honorific, FCIP. Awarded to members who exhibit the highest professional attainment and exhibit a wide breadth of experience. Such professional attainment and experience must be significant within a Canadian or international context.

Earning Criteria

Be nominated by a Fellow (FCIP), professional member (MCIP®), or retired member of CIP in good standing.
Submit a comprehensive dossier that demonstrates the individual’s excellence and breadth of planning experience, including significant contribution at the national and/or international level.
Receive letters of support from individuals familiar with the nominee's work that details how the individual meets the selection criteria.
Be recommended by a jury of professional planners (FCIP and MCIP®) and approved by the Canadian Institute of Planners Board of Directors.
