This Skill Badge validates students’ ability to manage conflict and communicate effectively with diverse clients or personnel in professional settings. Badge earners demonstrate self-awareness and an understanding of personal, social, and psychological factors influencing interpersonal relationships. They use active listening and problem-solving skills to de-escalate conflict, foster collaboration, follow workplace procedures, and respond professionally to feedback.

Earning Criteria

PSY-101 Principles of Psychology: This introductory psychology course covers a survey of information and theory. Topics include the brain and behavior, research methods, learning, consciousness, motivation, emotion, human growth and development, personality, abnormal behavior, and psychotherapy, social cognition and understanding.
PSY-219 Social Psychology: This course covers the complex interrelationship between the individual, small groups, and the greater society. Topics include attitude formation and change, social conflict, prejudice, frustration, and cooperation versus competition and aggression.
PSY-223 Personality: This course covers distinctive patterns of behavior, including the thoughts and emotions that characterize individuals’ adaptation to life. It examines four major approaches to the study of personality: psychoanalytic, behavioral, trait dispositional, and humanistic. Students study varying degrees of emphasis on processes or forces impinging on individuals’ interaction with their environment.
Students who complete this badge participate in an employer and faculty co-designed workshop where they apply the Interpersonal Intelligence and Conflict Management skills they learned in their coursework in workplace simulation scenarios.
