This beginning conversation (Conversation Level 1) course introduces students to basic, common phrases used in everyday American English. Students are given the opportunity to practice their conversational skills and to develop additional skills, such as asking for clarification. The course is designed to develop students' listening and speaking skills.

Earning Criteria

  • PREREQUISITE: MUST HAVE COMPLETED 1A (Or have a high beginner English proficiency level)
  • The student will be able to: 1. Develop follow-up questions to continue a conversation or ask for more information; 2. Ask for clarification when necessary to enhance comprehension; 3. Use an appropriate rate of speech to enhance listener comprehension; 4. Express their opinion on a familiar topic; and 5. Work together to construct conversations based on real-life situations.
  • Student will be holistically assessed to determine if they have satisfactorily mastered the material/met the learning outcomes.
