New students are placed into small interest-based teams called Knowledge Communities (KC), which meet weekly throughout the course of the semester. ELP participants examine how leadership is utilized within their KC theme and learn how to apply their understanding and skills to impact the local community. As part of this process, students from each KC initiate, develop and implement a service-learning project in the local community that incorporates leadership and supports the theme of their KC.
