Earning Criteria

• Earners have demonstrated an understanding of how relevant legislation applies in the workplace and can identify roles and responsibilities with regard to current relevant Health and Safety legislation and environmental legislation.
• Earners have demonstrated an understanding of the procedures in place for dealing with Environmental and Health and Safety situations in the workplace. Earners can specify the appropriate procedures which should be followed when emergency situations occur and state the actions to be taken in situations which exceed their level of responsibility for Health and Safety in the workplace. Earners can explain why it is important to report any hazards to the environment that arise from work procedures.
• Earners have demonstrated an understanding of the procedures for establishing a safe working environment. Earners can state the procedure for producing risk assessments and method statements in accordance with their level of responsibility. Earners can state the purpose of PPE and state the procedures that should be taken to remove or minimise risks before deciding if it is needed. Earners can also state the first aid facilities that must be available in the work area.
• Earners have demonstrated an understanding of the requirements for identifying and dealing with hazards in the work environment. They can identify warning signs for the 7 main groups of hazardous substance as defined by The Chemicals Regulations. Earners can identify specific hazards associated with the installation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment and describe situations which can constitute a hazard in the workplace.
• Earners have completed the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment. This covers the following topics; General Health and Safety at Work, Manual Handling Operations, Reporting Accidents, PPE at work, Health and Hygiene, Fire and Emergency, Working at Height, Work Equipment, Site Hazards, Electrotechnical and Environmental.
