Earning Criteria

• Earner has attended the Smart Citizens 6-week 'Smart Citizen Fab City Kit Training'.
• Earner has developed knowledge of Arduino and has practically applied this by assembling and coding their own Smart Citizen Kit with the support of a tutor. They have setup sensor hardware that can measure light, temperature, humidity, noise, barometric pressure and air pollution.
• Earner has learnt how to collect real-time data using an Application Programming Interface, and code a creative dashboard to visualise the data using Processing software.
• Earner has connected their Smart Citizen Kit to the Smart Citizen platform, sharing their environmental sensor with a global network. They have gained knowledge of how global and local participatory data collection can be a tool of citizen action and empower communities to seek solutions for environmental issues.
• Earner has developed knowledge of, and contributed to, the global Fab City and Smart Citizen initiatives. They have learnt how open source and distributed design can support local productivity and global connectivity.
• Earner has learnt how electronics and coding can be applied to real world settings and be combined with digital fabrication to create smart objects.
• Earner has developed knowledge of 3D design and digital fabrication to create a 3D printed case for their sensor. They have used either Inkscape or Autodesk Fusion 360 software to create a customised design and saved their designs as the correct file type to be uploaded to a SLA 3D printer.
• This badge is financed by the Arts Council England through the Cultural Development Funds as part of the iMayflower Project.
