Earner has learnt about common pests and diseases that they are likely to encounter in a UK garden. Through group discussion, they have explored physical and chemical prevention and treatment methods, in addition to natural alternatives such as companion plants.

Earner has increased their understanding of invasive species that they may encounter when tending to a garden. They have gained awareness of how to identify and manage the spread of plants that can cause damage to gardens and buildings, including Buddleia and Japanese Knotweed.

Earner has gained skills in seed cultivation by participating in a hands-on session to plant seeds and/or bulbs relating to the current season. They have learnt how to prepare soil for planting in an outdoor ground or raised bed, how to sow seeds for indoor germination, and have planted a tray of seeds to take home.

Earner has demonstrated critical thinking and understanding of plant identification by successfully passing an informal quiz to identify garden plants, matching photos of leaves and flowers to corresponding scientific and common plant names.
