Earning Criteria

Complete the Negotiation and Alternate Dispute Resolution Block in FSA or AF Negotiation Center Basic Mediation Course or First Sergeant Facilitation Course. Submit a certificate of completion to the approval authority.

Complete J3O P-US1315-Air Force Negotiation Center (AFNC) Online Practical Guide Course (1 hour) and submit a certificate of completion to the approval authority. CAC access is required to complete this course.

Perform the role of a USAF First Sergeant or full-time, additional-duty First Sergeant and acquire real-world counseling experience by utilizing negotiation, alternate dispute resolution, relationship counseling, work center climate counseling for supervisors, and pre/post-deployment counseling to ensure individual readiness and professional work center culture.

Document the real-world counseling experience in the form of a written personal reflection describing a scenario where the counseling skills were employed (without revealing information identifying the individuals involved) and how skill application led to successful outcomes. Please see Intermediary Counseling Rubric and Professional Journal Template for guidance.

Compile a portfolio that includes the required course certificates and professional journal. Please see Portfolio Checklist for guidance.

The portfolio was reviewed by First Sergeants' Council, according to the Intermediary Counseling Rubric & Portfolio Checklist, and recommended for the award of the Intermediary Counseling badge.
