Earners of the Safety & Health Specialist (SHS) – Construction Industry Concentration Certificate are experienced occupational safety and health practitoners who have developed the intermediate-level knowledge and skills needed to effectively identify and evaluate compliance with OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 Standards in a construction industry setting and teach workers about common safety and health hazards on the job.

Earning Criteria

Earners must complete a minimum of five required and four elective courses that include a minimum of 135 contact hours of training through OTI Education Center and/or EMU courses to earn the Safety and Health Specialist (SHS) – Construction Industry Concentration certificate.

As a consortium partner in the Great Lakes OSHA Education Center, Eastern Michigan University is part of a national network of non-profit organizations authorized by OSHA to deliver occupational safety and health training to all levels of workers.
