Earning Criteria

• Attend six four-hour workshops: Overview of the Standards of Good Practice; Mission, Ethics and Integrity (Standards 1, 9 and The Code of Ethics); Student Selection, Preparation, Code of Conduct and Returning Support (Standards 4 and 5); Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management (Standard 8);  Student Learning, Development and Academic Framework (Standards 2 and 3) and Program Resources, Policies and Procedures (Standards 6 and 7)
• Complete 11 assignments to assess the candidate's ability to articulate and apply the Standards; identify areas of risk and appropriately respond to crises; develop policies and procedures to improve student preparation for study abroad; draft and implement policies that are fair, ethical and transparent; appropriately respond to student conduct issues; provide guidance to stakeholders (faculty, staff, administration) on the Standards and assess operations based on these Standards.
• Complete a Culminating Project: Drawing upon the nine Standards of Good Practice and associated queries, and the Code of Ethics, Certified Professionals have completed a position paper to address up to three challenges and have described in detail deliverables (e.g., training, handbooks, policy statements) to address these challenges. They have identified appropriate resources to support their recommendations.
• Assignments meet established rubrics as determined by two Forum Certified Assessors, professionals in the field with senior level experience and in depth knowledge of the Standards of Good Practice. Participants resubmit assignments to incorporate feedback from the assessors until the assignment meets the competency requirement.
