An evaluation of three, different examples of media, according to CML’s five key concepts, which must deconstruct and evaluate each selected example.

The evaluation includes a framework based on CML’s 5 key concepts, which addresses, at a minimum: author- person/group/organization who designed & constructed the media message; format- the language(s), technique, & type of medium; audience- the specific target audience & the complete audience (incld all who may encounter the media); content- the embedded values, messages, opinions, & point of views; motive- the specific purpose(s)/goal(s) of the message, incld all primary & secondary motives.

All selected media for the evaluation must: include an identification, description, and url for each media example; be available to the public on the web; be a different type of media (video, infographic, audio commentary, images, podcast, digital story, etc.); be designed to or have the potential to reach youth via TV, Internet, or other digital channel of communication; and be delivered via TV, Internet, or other digital channel of communication.

A brief mini-lesson/presentation/reflection on the role & importance of media literacy (ML) within society, which addresses the following: the impact/pervasiveness of media on youth; the meaning & value of ML; how (& potentially why) media messages may positively &/or negatively impact society at-large, specific groups or cultures, learning environments &/or educational systems, & individuals; how & why ML is important in fostering youth as productive participants in a global society

Mini-lessons (face-to-face, blended, or online) must: be developed for a specific group of learners; be developed for use within a specific organizational context; incl. clearly identified audience/context/goals/objectives/assessment & evaluation strategies; incl. all materials/resources required within the mini-lesson; incl. a clear explanation of the timeline for the training/learning experience. Length: not exceed 1 class session, 1 1/2 day training session, or 1, 2-hour self-paced tutorial.
