Certified Health Insurance Specialist
The Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS) credential was established in 2011 to raise the bar on professional standards and practice methods of financial advisors in the health insurance sector, and to provide credential holders with expertise in this specialized field. The CHS is the only health insurance-focused designation in Canada, which strategically positions financial advisors to meet the growing market demand for informed living benefits advice.

The CHS has annual requirements to maintain the credential including adherence to The Institute Code of Professional Conduct, continuing education requirements and paying an annual licensing fee. Credential maintenance requirements are consistent with highly recognized professional designations in the financial services industry.
The CHS credential must be renewed annually with The Institute. This renewal includes an application process known as a “designation renewal” for the continued right to use the CHS marks and license.
The renewal term for the CHS credential ends on December 31 of each renewal year. CHS credential holders failing to renew their CHS by January 31 of the renewing year will lose their rights to publicly promote themselves as having the CHS and will have their credential revoked.
For lapsed designation holders applying for reinstatement, continuing education must be completed during the period of a lapsed credential and proof of completed CE must be provided before reinstatement can occur.
