The earner of this badge has completed 90 hours of graduate-level theological training designed to empower them with practical, relevant, applicable tools for ministry. Along with the basics of how to engage theology and the Bible, they have a knowledge of the development and behavior of children, the ability to develop and lead programming for children in a faith setting and an understanding of the importance of relationships with key stakeholders in age-level ministries.

Earning Criteria

It is strongly recommended that students have at least one year of experience working with children in a faith setting as a volunteer or on staff.
Standards
The Certificate in Practical Ministry meets the educational standards for United Methodist (UM) Certification in a specialized field as outlined by the Global Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). Candidates for UM Certification are responsible for filling out and filing their paperwork with GBHEM and their Board of Ordained Ministry.
