Career Management for Engineers involves the ongoing assessment of personal strengths and interests, an understanding of career opportunities and potential career paths, and intentional personal and professional networking. Badge earners are able to (1) explain why managers can’t manage their employee's careers; (2) identify ways that personal traits and career opportunities intersect; (3) establish action plans for career development; and (4) develop an initial career plan.

Earning Criteria

Actively participate in a live, interactive workshop (roughly 4 hours in total) facilitated by Rachel Heidenreich, Vice President Engineering Services & Quality for Rockwell Automation(Retired).

Work in small groups to identify personal strengths and discuss potentially aligned career roles; identify 5 potential mentors; practice (and give feedback on) asking someone to be a mentor; determine appropriate career planning actions for student cases.

Submit a revised career plan that includes a personality profile, mentor and volunteer opportunities, and past roles relevant to future career opportunities. Career plan also includes specific action items with due dates. (Facilitator approved)
