Earners of the Civic Literacy Badge have developed a deeper understanding of what it is to be informed and engaged participants in their communities’ civic and democratic life. Through practical experiences rooted in 5 domains of civic participation through MDC’s Civic Action Scorecard, they are prepared with the civic knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to work effectively in a diverse society and to create more just and equitable workplaces, communities, and social institutions.

Earning Criteria

Complete the Civic Action Scorecard - with specific point distributions across 5 domains of civic action.

Complete and submit a Civic Action Portfolio component upon applying for the badge. Complete 10 hours of academic service-learning related to their GSELS classes and submit required reflection, or earn a minimum of 100 points on the Civic Action Scorecard, with at least 50 of those points earned under the Environment & Sustainability section.
