Workplace Mediator - SW Councils

Workplace Mediator is an ILM Recognised learning programme, created and delivered by SW Councils for employees, or Councillors interested in learning how to effectively mediate to resolve conflict in the workplace. The programme aims to develop knowledge and skills by providing the skills and confidence to undertake a mediation from the initial meeting through to closure, following a mediation model and is delivered with a range of facilitator input, group discussions and practical exercises.
Earning Criteria

Understand mediation and conflict resolution in the workplace . This individual understands the role of the workplace mediator and the benefits of dealing with conflict in the workplace. They understand the signs, causes and effects of conflict. They know the roles, responsibilities, skills and behaviours of a meditator and how to decide on appropriate types of intervention. They also know how mediation links to organisation's HR policies and practices and mediation strategies.

Plan a mediation intervention to find a conflict resolution. This individual knows the '5-stage mediation strategy' and has prepared and practiced a workplace mediation intervention. This individual understands the details and importance of a 'mediation agreement' and its essential components. They also know how to deal with a "no agreement" outcome. This individual received peer and trainer/assessor feedback from practical activities to assess their skills and behaviours.

Reflective practice. This individual explored the benefits and challenges of workplace mediation, including possible equality and diversity issues. They are able to reflect on their own mediation practice, self-awareness, learning points and action plans.
Standards
The programme falls within the ILM Footprint of Leadership, Management, Coaching, Mentoring and Enterprise. It is well structured with appropriate governance and management to deliver consistently high-quality learning outcomes and objectives. Learners are fully supported and receive recognition for their achievement.
