Team Leading is an ILM Recognised programme of learning, created and delivered by ted Learning Ltd for new team leaders. The programme develops knowledge and skills by supporting learners with the team leader fundamentals: managing the challenge of transition to leading others, delegation and task management skills, managing difficult conversations and identification of areas for further self-development.

Identify challenges they may face in their transition into a team leader role and suggest strategies to overcome these.

This outcome is covered in the first workshop "Your First Steps into Team Leading Programme: Transitioning from Colleague to Line Manager" where learners will explore and share their concerns and challenges around making the transition to managing their peers. After working through these challenges, learners will explore strategies for overcoming these, increasing their confidence.

This learning outcome is also achieved throughout the overall completion of the programme as for some learners there may be specific concerns around difficult conversations or delegation. This outcome specifically maps to the ILM footprint of management as it begins to support learners in confidently executing their first management role.

Explain how effective delegation and task management supports the achievement of team goals. This outcome is covered in workshop two: "Introduction to delegation and task management" which focuses on the key management skill of delgating and managing the workload of others. This workshop explores barriers and challenges to delegation then focuses on best practice around how to delegate, touching on motivation theory and also exploring tools & techniques for succesful task management.

Outline effective approaches to use when managing difficult situations and / or people.

This outcome is covered in workshop three "Managing difficult situations and challenging people" where learners learn key communication skills to support them in effectively handling difficult conversations and avoiding conflict or escalation. This outcome specifically maps to the ILM footprint of management, as dealing effectively with difficult conversations and situations is a communication based key managerial skill.

Identify areas for own further development to support professional progression.

This outcome is covered both throughout the whole programme journey (as learners will identify areas for further development through the course of their reflective journal answers) and at the end of the programme as learners reflect on what they have learnt and how they can move forwards. The final achievement session uses group reflective activities and discussion to explore this further and learners commit to their future development next steps.
