First Steps in Management is an ILM Recognised programme of learning and assessment, created and delivered by Praeceptor Consulting for staff starting on their management journey. It is specifically aimed at NHS healthcare staff working in bands 2-5. The programme aims to develop knowledge and skills by building on existing skills, increasing self-awareness and confidence and developing an understanding of working with people.
Earning Criteria

Developing self – This individual has developed self-awareness of their own strengths and areas for improvement. They have developed skills in analysing appropriate learning opportunities and setting SMART personal development objectives for self and others.

Emotional Intelligence - EI - This individual has developed an understanding of Emotional Intelligence (EI). They have an awareness of their own EI and have gained knowledge of different techniques to maximise EI and its impact on relationships with others.

Team dynamics – This individual has developed an understanding of team dynamics including the lifecycle of a team and the benefits and challenges of working with others. They also have an awareness of team role preferences and establishing team rules.

This individual has completed an assessment that confirmed their knowledge and skills in their own First Steps in Management journey.
Standards
The programme falls within the ILM Footprint of Leadership, Management, Coaching, Mentoring and Enterprise. It is well structured with appropriate governance and management to deliver consistently high-quality learning outcomes and objectives. Learners are fully supported and receive recognition for their achievement.
