Discovering Leadership

Discovering Leadership is First Central Insurance & Technology Group’s development programme for aspiring leaders who have the desire and potential to lead others. Participants develop a strong understanding of leadership, giving them skills and confidence to support themselves and others and build a great support network for the future. To successfully complete Discovering Leadership, participants attended our modular training and demonstrated competence through a rigorous assessment process.

This individual attended a ‘Setting the Scene’ course which enabled them to: Explain their responsibilities in order to successfully complete Discovering Leadership, identify the key skills and behaviours that are required to be an effective leader, and recognise the difference between leadership and management

This individual attended a ‘Business Awareness’ course which enabled them to: Define their brand by identifying their core values, define how they can contribute to the company’s brand values, and explain the purpose of key departments within our business. Use all of this knowledge to support their networking and collaboration throughout the business

This individual attended an ‘Effective Communication’ course which enabled them to: Explain the key elements of communication and how to use them effectively, evaluate the impact of messages they and others deliver, and understand different communication styles for providing and receiving information

This individual attended a ‘Great Conversations and Coaching’ course to: Define the value of coaching to the business, the team and the individual, confidently explain the GROW coaching model, and perform a coaching session and agree actions to support a Coachee’s development

This individual participated in numerous events and activities to support their learning: In role learning by undertaking tasks associated with leaders e.g. coaching and providing feedback, and attended ‘Action Learning Sets’ with other participants and senior leaders within the business

At the end of this programme this individual completed assessments in the following areas: Powerful Feedback – demonstrating an ability to provide feedback in a challenging situation, and Great Conversations and Coaching – demonstrating through ‘role-play’ an ability to support the development of a colleague through a great coaching conversation
