This person has successfully demonstrated all of the competencies required to achieve the Stage 1 Certificate in Mathematics. They have developed skills in working with numbers, measurement, shapes, pictograms, tables, charts and graphs. They can add, subtract, multiply and divide decimal and common fractions and whole numbers less than 10000.

They can recognise numbers, sort objects, order and sequence numbers, explore simple number patterns, write numbers in words and figures, recognise decimal and common fractions, use the ideas of rounding and approximation, measure length, weight, capacity and temperature. They can tell the time in digital and analogue formats and read and construct pictograms, tables, charts and graphs. They can also calculate the perimeter, area and volume of shapes.

They can recognise the operations required to solve problems, check strategies and use mathematical terms in everyday conversation.
