They can maintain safe working conditions, adopt safe procedures for themselves and others and can select and use equipment and materials in a correct and safe manner. They can demonstrate how to securely jack and place vehicles on axle stands, wire appliance plugs and solder terminals and electrical wire.

They can inspect, remove and replace engine system components, petrol fuel system components, diesel system components and ignition systems. They can demonstrate the correct procedures required for testing and checking cooling, braking, steering and suspension, transmission and electrical systems.
