This person has successfully demonstrated all of the knowledge and practical competencies required to achieve the Skills Proficiency Certificate in Basic Masonry.

They can maintain safe working conditions, adopt safe procedures for themselves and others and can select, use and maintain tools in a correct and safe manner. They can select protective clothing and safety equipment for specific tasks and can also use and store toxic materials safely. They have developed trowel handling skills as well as basic wall building and paving techniques.

They can erect, use and dismantle simple scaffolding platforms as well as set up safety barriers around excavation hazards. They can cut walling materials (including chase and pipe holes), build half brick and block walls to industry standards, lay and compact concrete insitu flooring, prepare and lay precast concrete paving flags, bed and joint floor tiles and fit flexible joints to drainage pipes.
