This person has successfully demonstrated all of the knowledge and practical competencies required to achieve the Skills Proficiency Certificate in Basic Fabrication, Welding and Pipework. They can maintain safe working conditions, adopt safe procedures for themselves and others and use and store materials in a safe manner.

They can select and use the correct equipment appropriate to carrying out fabrication, welding and pipework. They can produce and use templates, stiffen and cut sheet metal and plate to shape and size, cut tube and sectional material to length, drill and punch holes, bend and fold simple shapes and roll cylinders. They are able to hard solder, braze weld, check and use gas and manual metal arc welding equipment safely.

They can carry out inspection and tests of welds, lift and move materials using different techniques and construct and use simple scaffolding platforms. They can carry out pipework to include hot and cold bends, thread pipe ends, fabricate and test screwed, welded and bolted pipeline sections. They can select and use hand and power tools appropriate to the job in hand. They can produce, extract details from, and interpret relevant simple drawings and sketches.
