To hold a licence to sell or serve alcohol in Scotland, a recognised qualification is needed, and to work in Scottish licenced premises, sufficient training is required. This short course, which was updated in 2020, gives licence holders the skills they need. It covers both Off Sales (shops) and On Sales (pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants). They understand the key roles of Licensing Boards, Licensing Standards Officers and other statutory bodies, as well as control of order, training requirements and the associated law and offences. They have an understanding of licensing and operational responsibilities and know how to protect children and young persons from harm through knowledge of the relevant legislation, policies and offences

This person understands the effect of alcohol consumption on the person and on a business. They have a knowledge of the concepts of alcohol intoxication, illegal drugs, as well as social responsibility.
