The programme is aimed at employees responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of various types of evaporative cooling tower. Basic operating principles are taught, together with an understanding of things that can go wrong, including legionella, corrosion and fouling of components. Also taught are the principles of water treatment, and the fundamentals of physical and chemical control.

This individual has successfully completed an assessed course of learning covering the basic principles of cooling tower operation. Topics included: principles of cooling by evaporation, types of cooling system, water sources and their different impurities, system contamination (chemical, mechanical and biofouling), basic water treatment, efficient plant operation, plant inspections and chemical control of water contaminants.
