Earning Criteria

• Learners will have completed the following mandatory units  Engineering health and safety Engineering principles Principles of mechanical manufacturing engineering  They will also take optional units, choosing from a range that includes machining materials by turning, by milling, by grinding, CNC machining and detailed fitting of materials
• They are able to:
• Understand compliance with statutory health and safety regulations and organisational requirements
• Understand compliance with statutory environmental regulations and organisational requirements
• Know how to implement accident and emergency procedures
• Understand safe working practices and procedures
• Know how to interpret engineering information
• Know how to differentiate between common engineering materials
• Know how to perform engineering calculations
• Understand quality control in engineering
• Understand how to determine the alignment of machine tools
• Know how to differentiate between methods of power transmission in machine tools
• Understand how to evaluate the application of CNC to machine tools
• Understand the maintenance requirements for machine tool systems
• They will also have gained skills in at least one of the following areas: Machining materials by turning, Machining materials by milling, Machining materials by grinding, CNC machining of materials, Detailed fitting of materials
