Earning Criteria

• The learners  are able to style and finish hair. They know how health and safety policies and procedures affect styling and finishing services and understand the factors that influence styling and finishing services, the science of styling and finishing hair and the tools, equipment, products and techniques used to style and finish hair.
• They are able to set and dress hair and know how health and safety policies and procedures affect setting and dressing services, the factors that influence setting and dressing services, understand the science of setting and dressing hair, the tools, equipment, products and techniques used to set and dress hair.
• They are able to cut hair using basic techniques and  know how health and safety policies and procedures affect cutting services. The learners understand the factors that influence cutting services, the tools, equipment, products and techniques used for cutting services.
• They are able to colour and lighten hair and know how health and safety policies and procedures affect hair colouring and lightening services. The learners understand the factors that may influence colouring and lightening services, the science of colouring and lightening hair, the tools, equipment, products and techniques used for colouring and lightening services.
• The learners understand the relevant policies and procedures when carrying out consultation services  and the science of hair, skin and scalp. They are able to consult with and advise clients.
• The learners understand the salons requirements for client preparation, the science of shampooing, conditioning and scalp treatments and the types of available shampooing and conditioning products and equipment. They are able to shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp.
• The learners understand the science of hair relaxing services, the products, the factors that influence these services, the techniques used, and know how health and safety policies and procedures affect the hair relaxing services. They are able to relax hair.
• They might be able to perm and neutralise hair. They may know how health and safety policies and procedures affecting perming, neutralising and chemical rearranging services  as well as understand the factors , the science and  the tools, equipment, products and techniques used for hair perming, neutralising and chemical rearranging services.
• The learners  might be able to plait and twist hair. They may know how health and safety polices and procedures affect plaiting and twisting services and understand the factors that influence ,and the tools, equipment, products and techniques used to plait and twist hair.
• They might be able to attach hair to enhance the style.  They may  know how health and safety polices and procedures affect hair attachment services. They may  understand the factors that influence hair attachment services  and the tools, equipment, products and techniques used.
• They might be able to remove hair extensions. They may know how health and safety polices and procedures affect hair extension removal services and  the potential consequences of excessive tension on the hair as well as  the tools, products, equipment and their potential use .
• They are able to carry out salon reception duties and understand salon and legal requirements for carrying out salon reception duties. The learners  know the operations of the salon.
• They are able to cut hair using basic barbering techniques. They know how health and safety policies and procedures affect cutting services and understand the factors that influence cutting services, the tools, equipment, and products used in basic barbering techniques.
