This qualification provides learners with skills and knowledge in welding, metal fabrication and thermal cutting. Achievement of this qualification will enable the learners to prepare for metal fabrication, select components, make a selection of cuts, produce welded joints and understand the welding, metal fabrication and thermal cutting process requirements. Earning Criteria

All learners will have completed a metal fabrication unit and a thermal cutting unit. and will have taken one of the 4 optional welding units • Manual Metal Arc Welding • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding • Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding • Oxy Acetylene Welding. They are able to:

Measure and mark out in preparation for metal fabrication

Set up, prepare and shut down equipment for metal cutting, forming and joining

Produce a selection of fabricated components

Know the process requirement for metal fabrication

Be able to measure and mark out in preparation for thermal cutting

Be able to set up, prepare and shut down equipment for thermal cutting

Be able to make a selection of cuts using thermal cutting techniques

Know the process requirement for thermal cutting

In addition, the learners will be able to complete the following using one of the following welding techniques:

Manual Metal Arc Welding

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding

Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding

Oxy Acetylene Welding

Produce beads on plate in the PA flat position

Produce a lap fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position

Produce a tee fillet/brazedweld in the PA flat position

Produce a tee fillet/brazed weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position

Produce a corner weld in the PA flat position
