Earning Criteria

• This person can speak, listen and communicate through narratives, discussions, explanations, presentations. They can follow/understand discussions, arguments; identify relevant information; communicate info/ideas/opinions clearly and accurately on different topics, supported by evidence; ask questions for specific information; respond effectively to detailed questions; use and adapt language to audience, purpose, medium; respect turn-taking and interject appropriately.
• This person can read and analyse straightforward/complex texts of different style, voice, length, topic, that instruct, describe, explain, persuade, including reference material. They can identify main points vs detail; compare info, ideas and opinions across texts and know how they are conveyed; identify implicit and inferred meaning; understand textual features and devices and impact on meaning; how vocabulary affects formality/bias; follow arguments; identify points of view, fact/opinion.
• This person can compose straightforward and complex texts of appropriate length and detail which meet the needs/purpose of the audience. They can communicate info, ideas and opinions clearly, coherently, effectively; use format, structure, language appropriate for audience and purpose; write complex sentences consistently and accurately using paragraphs where appropriate; use correct grammar and punctuation; spell words used most often in work, study and daily life, including specialist words.
